Synesthesia is the blending of senses. The form Kit has is known as chromesthesia (a person sees colors and textures when they hear sound). For example, for Kit, flutes sound lavender, cellos sound auburn/brown, and trumpets sound green, though this does vary depending on how the instrument is played. Voices each have a specific color and texture as well. So, when Kit hears music (or any sound), they can see a multitude of colors and textures. Kit’s Synesthesia Art is their attempt at sharing these experiences.
Kit primarily works with digital and acrylic mediums. They have been using their synesthesia as an inspiration for their art since before they were conscious of the notability of the gift. Kit has been using these mediums in a professional capacity since 2016. Some of their favorite sounds are their brother’s lavender-blue flute playing, the gold and royal blue movement of the ocean, and their best friend’s magenta-purple laugh.
